  Connections is a program of MRC Industries, Inc. that provides services to students with learning
  disabilities and emotional impairments who need assistance and guidance to successfully make the
  transition from school to work.  

  Connections identifies 14-26 year olds who need a variety of services to successfully enter the job
  market and become responsible productive adults.  These young adults are helped to identify and
  accept their strengths, limitations, hopes, and fears in order to set goals and make healthy choices
  for a lifetime. 
Connections encourages the young adult to be an active participant in the process that
  focuses on learning by doing, problem solving and taking personal responsibility

  Teams of support which consist of family, friends, professional staff, and other community members
  work to assist the young adult in achieving his/her long and short term goals in
  areas which are all centered around, or directly related to, employment.     

  • Employment (creating resumes and cover letters, mastering interview techniques, obtaining maintaining employment)

  • Education and Training (developing a high school plan, exploring vocational options, implementing educational supports, pursuing college aspirations

  • Self-advocacy (setting and achieving goals, decision making skills, increasing communication skills, making informed decisions)

  • Community Participation (discovering local opportunities, accessing community resources, building valued relationships, participating in planned activities)

  Potential characteristics of candidates for this program:

  • Lack confidence and self-esteem needed for success

  • Must learn to cope with limitation or disability 

  • Display impulsivity or lack other problem solving skills

  • Have not thrived in traditional school programs

  • Need customized job development services due to limitation

  • May need long-term supported employment

  • Presently eligible for rehabilitation services or Community Mental Health funding
